About Endurance

From its beginnings in the USA in the 1950s, Endurance has grown into a worldwide sport and is one of the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) disciplines since the 1980s.  Horses and riders compete over distances up to 160km in one day. The welfare of the horse is paramount and to this end veterinary checks are held on a regular basis throughout rides

About Us

A group including the majority of Ireland’s top endurance riders met in September 2011 to discuss the future of Endurance in Ireland.  As a result it was decided a need existed for a new administrative body to promote the sport and Endurance Ireland was formed.

The need for a new organisation has come about as a result of Ireland’s lack of participation at international level and the requirement for a new direction for endurance at all levels. Ireland has not participated in a Championship at European, World or WEG since 2006.  With the FEI World Endurance Championships being held so close to home at Euston Park in the UK in 2012 and the World Equestrian Games to be held in Normandy, France in 2014 the prospects for sending Championship teams abroad have never been better or more achievable with the right input.  Ireland is very fortunate to have a significant number of talented riders and horses capable of competing at the highest levels in the world given the right opportunity.  We have approached Horse Sport Ireland with a view to becoming a section of Horse Sport Ireland as part of the process of ensuring Ireland’s participation at the World Championships..

We expect to hold an ongoing full programme of national events, with competitive opportunities throughout the country available for all levels.  Those new to the sport will be actively encouraged and assisted to in achieving their desired level of competition. Education and training will be provided for riders, support personnel (crew) and officials.
